What do the Rotax engine numbers and letters mean?
The number identifies the engine generation, 912, 914, 915 or 916, and the letters after it identify how that engine is fed. UL and ULS are carbureted and naturally aspirated. The 914 adds a turbocharger to the 912-generation core. iS models, 912 iS, 915 iS and 916 iS, are fuel injected instead of carbureted, and the 915 iS and 916 iS are turbocharged as well. Generally, the higher the number, the newer the design and the more power it makes.
