A gyroplane in cruise flight over open water

Tools

Fuel burn and endurance

Usable fuel and a burn rate give you endurance. Endurance minus your reserve is the only part of it you are allowed to plan with.

Planning range

Endurance
Usable to reserve

Enter usable fuel and a burn rate.

What this deliberately leaves out

The figure above is a still-air planning number and nothing more. Four things it does not know about, every one of which shortens the distance you will actually cover:

  • Wind. A headwind takes range straight off the total.
  • Taxi, run-up and the climb, all of which burn at a higher rate than cruise.
  • Unusable fuel. Enter usable fuel, not tank capacity: the flight manual publishes them separately for a reason.
  • Any diversion, hold or second approach.

Ask this tool what is possible, then plan the flight against the numbers in your own flight manual and the forecast on the day.

Disclaimer. This calculator gives rough estimates for planning only. Always confirm fuel, performance and weight figures against your aircraft's manufacturer documentation and its flight manual or pilot's operating handbook before you fly. As pilot in command, you are responsible for the safety and legality of every flight.
